Four-day weeks always throw me a little off balance. At a time of the year when everything seems to be in fast-forward, a shorter week only heightens that feeling. Although fewer classes are visiting the media center these days, there's a flurry of activity behind the scenes. End-of-year report data collection, preparations for June and July "closing down" and "opening up" procedures and the continued transition from Athena to Destiny (and all of the new *quirky* findings we are discovering) are a few of the back office duties being attended to. The media staff's favorite *quirk* of the day is the mysterious issuing of refunds to students and staff. Some records have shown refunds upwards of $25.00! Another teacher had 3 televisions checked out at once! We're editing records as these cases arise and are humored in the process.
In year-round, the transition between school years is certainly fuzzy. Each year blends into the next, and although the calendar says May 27, the 08-09 school year has already sent signs of it's arrival. Today, a bundle of new Social Studies textbook teacher resources arrived for cataloging and processing. These resources will be used with next year's students. New books always excite me, as I think of the many new things our students will learn by using them over the coming years. Today's textbooks include so many information-rich products and technology-integrated materials. Students literally have the world at their fingertips. Ready . . . . set . . . . . LEARN!
